“The canoe is our island. The island our canoe”
On behalf of our teachers and staff, we welcome you back to a new school year. We hope your summer was relaxing and filled with wonderful memories and time spent with friends and family. We extend a warm aloha and welcome to our new students and families.
We are very excited for this year and look forward to working with our families, community and educational partners who share the belief that students at Hau’ula are “equipped with the
knowledge, skill, and integrity (Hawaiian values) needed to be life-long learners and contributing citizens of the world.” It is our goal and expectation to provide students with a quality education that will set them up for success. We want our students to leave Hau’ula feeling confident and ready to pursue their career interest or educational field of study. We believe we can do this together. We can be the village that helps raise our future, a bright future for our students.
Our goals will continue to focus on literacy: reading and writing, math facts, problem solving,
attendance and family partnerships. We are aligned to the Common Core State Standards
which provides skills at each grade level. These skills are introduced and reinforced throughout a student’s high school years and beyond. It is rigorous and challenging but consistent - and will help our students strive, excel and grow.
This year we have a new state assessment called the Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium (SBAC). Students in grades 3-6 will have an opportunity to test sometime in the 4th quarter. This replaces the Hawaii State Assessment (HSA).
We have an excellent team of teachers and staff. I ask for your continued support on our journey to “Build our Island.” Our focus to prepare students, college and career ready, begins here. There are multiple opportunities for you to get involved. We look forward to seeing you at our Principal Meet and Greet and at Open House.
